British or English?

Wasn’t quite sure whether I was celebrating being English or British. There were lots of Union Flags around but there is something distinctly English about sitting in a field listening to a symphony orchestra play prom classics. Lots of good food, fine company and dancing police women made the last Quex Prom (or so they say) a pretty good one.

Golfing for Geeks

Took part in my first Associated Trades golf society day since my dodgy hamper win before Christmas.  The venue was Old Thorns in Hampshire, a spectacular but unforgiving course and as my handicap had been viciously slashed from 21 to 16 it was going to be an uphill battle.

As we were playing 36 holes and the course is fairly hilly, we invested in buggies and each one possessed a screen with an integrated GPS which informed you of the upcoming hole and the distance to the pin as you got nearer the hole – golfing and geekness rolled into one, marvellous.

Raking the bunker – again!

Test for Colin B

Hi Colin,

Have included a little video to see if your subscription is working. Refresh the podcast in itunes and let me know if it still doesn’t appear and I’ll have another think.  I think the Joshua sermon is too big for the hosting site.

Clever Stuff

I like these two for very different reasons….

NCFF – Manchester

Played football today for Barnabas in the National Christian Football Festival which was played at the University pitches in Manchester.  Unfortunately, the tournament had to be abandoned as the pitches were cutting up but they may be playable tomorrow.  We only managed two games and I played in the first at right back.  Although the team was mostly made up of fit, quick youngsters, these old legs managed to carry me up and down the pitch and I don’t think I embarrassed myself, however, I was “rested” for the second game…

Ang and Danny’s Wedding

DSCF1018.JPGHave just returned from Weybridge, Surrey and Ang and Danny’s wedding.

Had a lovely time catching up with old friends, eating lots of very nice food and enjoying the hospitality of the Oaklands Park Hotel. There were lots of very nice cars in the car park as the Cannonball run gets underway from Sandown today and many of the cannonballers were staying overnight in the hotel. I don’t think my dented M reg looked out of place…

A thing of beauty…

…my new snooker trophy.  Can’t quite believe it’s a year since the last tournament and as usual we played like once a year snooker players with a combination of flukes, dreadful misses and the odd flash of brilliance.  We won the league this year (somehow), as we were playing our last game with just the pink and  black on the table Phil worked out that if we got one more snooker and potted the pink and black we would win the tournament by a point.  Our opponents fouled on the pink, we potted it and then they fouled on the black – job done.  We think we received twice as many points in fouls than we actually potted over the course of 3 games but the table doesn’t lie and we received two mighty fine plastic trophies.  We were knocked out of the knock out  tournament in the first round by Tom and Tim despite the referee getting the scores wrong and some poor time wasting tactics from Mr Lawrence.

Crossing Over – Joshua Chapter 3

No entry fee needed for this theme park.  Just create your own rides with a few mates and a bit of imagination.  This one is called Wheel of Death…

Edinburgh

I spent this weekend in Edinburgh watching my friend Phil compete in the marathon on Sunday, it was the first time I had been to the city and I’d love to go back and explore some more. We arrived late on Friday and John picked us up at the station. The next day while Phil was registering and driving the course I wandered up the Royal Mile, down Princes Street and along Leith Walk. Unfortunately, the weather on Sunday was miserable and a strong headwind meant it was really hard work but Steve, Phil and Paul all completed the course. Was I tempted to join them? Not once…
